Measurement review, fatter and bigger?

I don't take unclothed "progress pics" mainly because I don't really do this for aesthetics.  However I very infrequently take body measurements.  I usually don't expect them to change much since I don't specifically train to increase my size and it's usually pretty easy to tell if too many dietary indiscretions have landed on my waistline.

However, the other week a friend on the fitness tracking site www.fitocracy.com asked me if I ever tracked my measurements.  I don't usually but it did get me thinking.  Since I'm currently walking around at about 10 lbs more than I was earlier in 2012, I figured I might as well face the truth and see how much of it registered in the lard storage areas.

On June 21, 2012, I weighed 239 and took the following measurements:

Neck:                                        17.5"
Right/Left Flexed Forearm:         13.25"/13"
(arm straight, wrist flexed)
Right/Left Flexed Upper Arm:     17.5"/17.375"
Chest:                                         48.75"
Waist (belly button):                    40"
Waist (hip bones):                       39"
Hips:                                           43.5"
Right/Left Thighs:                        27"/27"
Right/Left Calves:                        16"/15.75"

On January 13, 2013, I weighed 251 and took the following measurements:

Neck:                                        18"
Right/Left Flexed Forearm:         13.5"/13.125"
(arm straight, wrist flexed)
Right/Left Flexed Upper Arm:     18.25"/18.125"
Chest:                                         48.75"
Waist (belly button):                    41"
Waist (hip bones):                       39"
Hips:                                           44.5"
Right/Left Thighs:                        28.25"/28"
Right/Left Calves:                        16"/15.75"

Bigger in the gut part of the waist but not where I wear my pants.  Bigger in the hips and thighs which would seem to correspond with my increased utilization of my glutes and the improvements in my squatting numbers.  Arms are bigger which makes sense since I've been able to work my upper body better since my shoulder issues have gone away, plus I've added in some direct arm work.  Neck is a little bigger.  I have no idea of those measurement changes even make sense with only 12 lbs difference in bodyweight.

Seems like the change in bodyweight has brought with it fat gain (which was obvious) and possibly some muscle gain (which was suspected but not obvious).  It will be interesting to see which measurements change as I drop my bodyweight to 239 and below in the coming months.  Then again, the only numbers that really matter are what I weigh on meet day and what I lift.
