Unexpected overhead press PR

Ever since I hit a fairly smooth 225x2 in the overhead press back on Feb 9th, I've been looking forward to the next good day to take a run at a new PR of 245 lbs.  I didn't expect it to happen today because I'd been either sick with a stomach bug or just had a rough two days with GERD.  Either way, I had barely eaten in two days and woke up today so worn out that I stayed in bed an extra hour and went into the office late.

My expectations today were to treat the session like an unplanned deload and just get in some reps.  When I got to the gym and started warming up with the bar, things felt pretty good.  My last warm up set with 185 felt really fast.  When my next set of 205x3 felt just as fast, I thought I might have that day.  I decided that if 225 went up fast, I'd just do a single and try the 245.  It was fast so I loaded up 245.  The 245 was a tough lockout but I finished it.  While I knew I was primed to hit that lift some day, I didn't expect it to be tonight.  I am ever so close to finally hitting a 1xBwt overhead press.

I then hit a rep PR with 185x6 on my first back off set.  I finished up with a final 185x5 and moved to high bar pause squats.  Those were not that good, my back still isn't 100%.  After going through some bench repetition work and some barbell rows, I finished up with dumbbell curls and dumbbell concentration curls.  It felt good to get a burn going in the biceps.  They're coming along pretty well.

Since my back apparently needs some rest and I've recently hit PR's in the bench press and the overhead press, I think it's a good time to start preparing for the cruise Vivian and I are taking in May.  I've read that people gain weight on cruises and I'm sure I'll be no exception (assuming I don't catch a norovirus on board).  Since my GERD is acting up, it seems like good timing to cut back some and try to drop some weight that I'll likely put back on while cruising the Mediterranean   It'll give my back a rest and allow me to recharge so I can make a big push towards the OPA Classic Championships in late November 2013.
