4 Weeks out, 1st day back from the flu

So, my "5 weeks out" training week was interesting.  Got sick Sunday night and spent the next three days in bed.  The fourth day I was still too sick to go to work but was able to spend a couple hours out of bed doing things like showering and eating.  When all was said and done, I was pretty much sick for a week and lost 12 lbs.

Can't remember the last time I had the flu like that.  It's been at least 20 years.  I know that because every employer in the last 20 years has required a doctor's note if one missed more than three days.  I never needed a doctor's note so I'm pretty sure I never missed four days of work in a row.  In fact, the last time I remember being that sick, I think I was living at home and my mom took care of me. This time it was Vivian.

I guess if something like that hits me every 20+ years, I can't complain.  Still, the timing wasn't ideal since I still have a competition in a month.  That's the thing about training, sometimes the body doesn't really care what the timetable is.  I'll just have to try to make the most out of the next four weeks and get the most out of it that I can on meet day.

On the other hand, a week ago I was walking around at 252 lbs and had pretty much given up on the idea of lifting in the 105 kg weight class.  Now I'm at 240 lbs and all of a sudden, it's not that much of a stretch to get down to 231.  We'll see if my appetite returns, if it stays away another week, I might as well ride it out and get down to the 105 kg class.  I'll be able to accomplish that goal even if I'm not at my strength best.

Got to the gym tonight and didn't have real high expectations.  Mainly I didn't want to pass out or get sick.  Got in some good work although I was definitely weak.   The strength should come back quickly even if work capacity has taken a hit.  I'll be curious to see how much the weight loss affects my strength since it's been so drastic.
