Week 8, Day 2 and Week 9, Day 1, last two before the competition

I was able to get to the gym for a quick session last Friday before my brother and his wife drove in to visit for the weekend.  They live in Boulder but were staying in a timeshare in Ellicottville, NY.  Since that's only a couple hours away, they drove up to visit Vivian and I.

Because I managed to get in a quick session before they arrived for lunch, I was able to prime my anabolic window for some poutine (they wanted to try it) and later some Halifax Donair from the Fuzz Box on the Danforth.  Both were excellent but the Fuzz Box's donair was easily the best thing I threw through my anabolic window all day.

In between meals we visited the new Ripley's Aquarium.  That place is amazing.

It was good to see my brother and his wife.  The next day, we took them to Port Dover for lunch at the famous Erie Beach Hotel where they enjoyed some Lake Erie perch and pickerel.  They also got to see the remnants of the previous day's Friday the 13th biker rally.  They were only here a short time but I think they got to sample a decent bit of Canadiana.

Deadlifts:  315x3, 405x3, 455x2, 495x2

Bench Press:  185x8, 225x8, 245x9, 245x6, 245x6

In reality, the brevity of that session wasn't really enough to open anyone's anabolic window but it was a good excuse to eat.

Today's session was also a short one, just enough to handle some heavy weight so I don't go completely stale before Saturday's competition.  I wore my loose training sleeves for squats just to make sure things felt the same and they did.  I worked up to a single with 455 and will probably open at 200kgs just to take it easy.  If things move well, I'll probably go 210/220 for my second and thirds.  I'm not real concerned with how the squats go since I haven't been training them heavy.

Bench presses went very well.  The transition to a wider grip is going better than expected and I worked up to a single with 335.  This is heavier than I've lifted in quite a while.  The wider grip is really working out well and the 10 lbs I've gained since Nationals isn't hurting things either.  I think I've got a good shot at matching or exceeding my current lifetime PR of 155 kgs (341 lbs).

Squats:  135x5, 225x5, 275x5, add belt, low bar, 315x3, add wrist wraps 365x3, 405x2, 455x1

Bench Press: all reps paused, 135x5, 185x5, 225x5, add wrist wraps, 275x2, 315x1, 335x1, 295x3

Seated cable rows:  140x10, 150x8, 160x6, 140x8
